Jazmine Sullivan

JazmineJazmine Sullivan was born in and was raised in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Her mother Pam was a vocalist for the backup band of Philadelphia International Records. When she was 5 years older, her father was offered an appointment as the curator at the city's Historic Strawberry Mansion in the Strawberry Mansion section, and her family was able to move into the historical landmark. In 2005, she graduated from the Philadelphia High School for the Creative and Performing Arts with an alumna of the vocal music department. Sullivan began her singing career as a contralto with the kids' choir, and then shortly after, she was a part of the adult group. His exposure to secular music was not extensive at first "I did solos in churches and a person wanted me to sign to an evangelical label when I had turned eleven, however I wasn't yet ready," she recalls. "Then McDonald's offered a competition to kids from cities. After that, I was given the chance to perform What God Wills on Showtime Apollo. The crowd was enthusiastic." She performed alongside Stevie Wonder at his grandson's birthday celebration at 13. Sullivan began her contract with Jive Records at the age 15. When she was 15 she signed with Jive Records. The label recorded an entire album there, but it wasn't made available for release. Sullivan was ultimately removed by the label. Her work had been in good relations with Missy Elliott. Elliott produced several of her songs, including "Backstabbers", which was produced by Timbaland.
